Discussion: How many wins will the Celtics finish up with?

14 games left, can they get to 40 wins?

NBA: Chicago Bulls at Boston Celtics Brian Fluharty-USA TODAY Sports

The Celtics have a couple of days rest for the first time in a long, long time. This feels like the final breath before diving into the pool for the final stretch.

They are 8-2 in the last 10 and have just 14 games left in the season. At 31 wins, it would take a 9-5 record (.643 average) to reach 40 wins on the season.

The website FiveThirtyEight projects them to reach 40 wins on the season. Of course they also predict that the Hawks will finish with 40 wins. Atlanta owns the tiebreaker so that would put the Celtics in the 5th seed and without homecourt advantage in the first round (or likely any round).

Here’s hoping that the team’s recent success is more of an indicator of things to come than the inconsistent play that has defined a majority of the season. While nagging injuries, safety protocols, and non-COVID illnesses can still pop up, in general it seems like the team is getting healthier.

So what are your predictions? Will they make it to 40 wins? What seed will they be in the playoffs? Who do you think they’ll face? Who would you like to face?
