After participating in Summer League for the Boston Celtics, 2nd round pick Juhann Begarin will be returning to Paris for the 2021-22 season. According to Paris Basketball, both Begarin and the Paris team will be participating at a higher level next season: “for its first season in Betclic Elite, the Parisian club promises a spectacle on the floors and outside.”

Juhann Begarin was selected with the 45th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, with the idea that he would be stashed in France to continue his development. Shortly after the draft, we got some Guerschon Yabusele vibes, as Begarin stated his intention to come stateside to participate in Summer League and prove to President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens that he was capable of playing against NBA level competition.

“I think I’m ready to play with (the Celtics), and I knew Summer League was an opportunity to show them I’m ready. I just asked him to play and show I can play with them,” Begarin told the media in the ramp up to Summer League.

Throughout his five games of Summer League play, Begarin averaged 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 3 assists on an average of 24 minutes per game. During his short time with the team, the Paris native displayed an NBA-ready level of athleticism along with a versatile approach to the game.

“He was able to play the five for us defensively. We were able to switch. I thought he did a great job showing his hands and making people score through him, and he had a great drive-and-kick at the end of the game to Aaron.” Joe Mazzulla detailed to the media.

With a 7’0’’ wingspan, adult frame, and good touch both from deep and around the rim, Begarin made a good impression during his first taste of American basketball. Another season in Europe playing against an increased opposition level to last year should provide Begarin the platform he needs to continue his development before possibly coming back to Las Vegas next year in another attempt to earn a roster spot.
