The Boston Celtics are signing wing Garrison Mathews to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania:
Free agent guard Garrison Mathews is signing a one-year, non-guaranteed deal with the Boston Celtics, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Mathews spent his first two NBA seasons with Wizards and played 64 games (24 starts) in 2020-21.

After going undrafted out of Lipscomb University in 2019, Mathews fought his way onto the Washington Wizards, where he appeared in 82 games over the past two seasons. In 64 outings last season (including 16 starts) he impressed by shooting 38.4 percent on nearly 200 total 3-point attempts.
Mathews’ contract gives him two-way eligibility, which could have him rotate between the NBA and G League over the course of the regular season.
The Boston Celtics training camp roster now stands at the maximum of 20 players.
With Mathews claiming a roster spot, this could mean the end for big man Luke Kornet’s time with the Celtics. Training camp rosters are often fluid, as teams line contracts up to get players to the G-League as Affiliate Players.
Boston’s media day will be held on Monday, September 27. Training camp will open the next day on Tuesday, September 28.
