President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens gave a notable update on the Boston Celtics All-Star wing Jaylen Brown, confirming he is cleared to practice and participate during training camp.

Brown missed the final few weeks of the Celtics season and was forced to watch from the sidelines as his team fell to a 4-1 gentleman sweep at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. Brown’s injury was a torn scapholunate ligament that required surgery to repair the damage, leading to fears he may not have been ready to resume basketball activities to begin the 2021-22 NBA season.

Brown’s quick recovery from surgery will be a welcomed piece of good news as the re-tooled Celtics enter training camp and look to get to grips with head coach Ime Udoka’s vision for how the team should play this season.

The Georgia native was in the midst of his finest season as a professional basketball player before injury cut his year short. Brown made his first All-Star appearance in his hometown of Atlanta and was averaging a career-high in points (24.7), assists (3.4), and field goal percentage (48.4%). Brad Stevens spoke on Brown’s season-ending injury at the time:

“I think, obviously, you feel for Jaylen. He had a great year. He’s such an important part of us in the here and now and as we move forward,” Stevens said. “We’re all encouraged he’s going to be fine after the surgery and recover 110 percent. So, first and foremost, you think about him in that situation.

Jaylen Brown has been a member of the Celtics since being drafted third overall in the 2016 NBA draft and is currently one year into a four-year, $107 million extension. The first time All-Star will be looking to re-discover his level of play from last season as the team bids to put their disappointing season behind them.
