Some options for a D. White trade to fill out the roster.

With the addition of M. Brogdon this off-season, Boston seems to have a glut of what could be called "combo-guards" on the roster now (Smart, White and Brogdon). All three players have proven to be solid NBA starters in the past and all are in their NBA prime.

With the Celtics still having up to three spots to fill and seemingly an outside shooter and vet big man being what most fans feel the team needs are, I have scoured other teams rosters and salary's and come up with a few possible options IF moving White is on the radar.

These are in no particular order of preference for me and I attach what I feel would be draft capital needed to make the deals fair to both teams. I should note in that most of these deals White is probably the best player, but since in most cases Boston is getting two depth pieces I feel it balances out.

1) D. White (16.89M) and 2- second round picks

to Charlotte for

K. Oubre (12.6M- Expiring) and Kai Jones (2.9M- rookie deal).

Charlotte has a glut of big men on the roster right now and plenty of SF types also. White could be a good fit in their back court with Rozier and Ball and has two additional years on his deal over the expiring Oubre. Charlotte also is well below the tax line so a littler additional salary doesn't effect them there. We send 2- seconds to help offset them adding last years #19 first round pick Jones in the deal.

Boston gets a bigger wing in Oubre along with his bird rights after the season. Kai Jones is a young athletic big man who may be able to develop into Rob Williams back up big.

2) D. White and one second round pick

to Detroit for

N. Noel ( 9.2M) and C. Joseph (5.15- Expiring).

Detroit has 17 players under contract right now and will need to cut or trade someone anyway. Here I have them getting a vet guard to pair with the young ones they have (Cunningham, Ivey and Hayes) and send a future second there also. Detroit is well under the tax line.

For Boston, Noel is seemingly the perfect BU for Rob who also has ties to the area., he is under contract for two years also. Joseph is a lesser D. White type guard, who is a better outside shooter.

3) White and second round pick

to Washington for

W. Barton (14.37M-Expiring) and I. Todd ( 1.56M- rookie deal)

Basically its a White for Barton deal, giving Washington another player who can handle the PG spot, while Boston gets a slighter bigger player to play either wing spots, who can shoot better. Taking a flyer on second year big man Todd for that second round pick here. This deal get Washington very close if not over the tax line though.

4) White and a future first round pick

to Orlando for

J. Isaac ( 17.4M plus two years) and RJ Hampton (2.4M -rookie deal).

Orlando has am excess of young Big men and guards right now and 16 players under contract. With Isaac's injury history they might move on from him, White could provide a steady vet presence with C. Anthony, Suggs and even Fultz all vying for minutes in the back court.

Boston takes a flyer on Isaac staying healthy and has Hampton for young depth in the back court here. They need to add a future first to get Orlando to bite I think.

5) White and 2- seconds

to OKC for

D. Favors (10.18-Expiring) and Tre Mann (3.04- Rookie deal)

OKC has 18 players under contract and will need to cut of trade some players. they have a real glut of young guards on the roster and while White does not seem to fit their youth movement, he could be a nice salary for a future deal for them. Moving off Favors is one key thing for them and they get some future draft capital here also.

Boston gets a vet big man on an expiring deal and a young guard for possible future development in Mann.

6) White along with a first and a second

to Toronto for

OG Anunoby (17.5M plus two years) and K. Birch (6.66M plus another year).

Birch comes in under the Gomez TPE in this case. SO its two trades White and first for Anunoby and a second for Birch.

Toronto still has Barnes and the newly signed Porter along with either Siakam or KD (if they make that deal) at the forward spots. What Toronto does NOT have is any depth at guard. Only VanVleet and Trent are proven NBA players on the roster now there. White is an almost perfect fit there, IMO.

Anunoby give Boston another bigger wing who would seemingly fit in nicely with Udokas defensive schemes, giving the team that third wing they may need. Birch is a solid vet BU big man who can provide deep depth on a championship level team. Boston does ADD around $7 to their over all salary here and probably an additional $14M in tax payments, which may to too high a price to pay here.

so there are a couple possible options IF D. White would be moved from my perspective. I am sure there are others that could work also and help lock down this roster going into the new season.
