Game 1 and Game 2 Notes

  1. Way too late on the timeout when the Celtics blew the lead in the 3rd quarter in game 1.
  2. Smart's 3 unforced turnover in game 2 were killers. I mean what in the world was he thinking.
  3. Waited too long to get Timelord off Martin in game 2. If he gets beat, so be it. Have to get up and guard. That stretch when the lead evaporated after the Celtics went on that big run was another situation where no adjustments were made and wait too long to sub Timelord out and Martin looked like an all NBA player.

In reality as much as the Heat dominated, take away those 3 things, and the Celtics are still up 2-0.

  • If you play Pritchard, you have to tell him to go crazy on defense. Way too conservative. He is only going to be in there for a few minutes, give everything he has to harass the ball and aggravate and disrupt in the back court. He really didn't do much at all and didn't touch the ball other than his 2 shots and 1 other touch. He has to make those shots if he plays. Also, you cannot play Pritchard with Brogdon. Brogdon won't pass him the ball.
  • The Celtics just don't guard the ball very hard. Hate the drop coverage on ball screens. The Heat are so comfortable on offense because of this passive play. Nobody seems to be able to fight though screens and take that hit on the screen on the Celtics.
  • Big Al looks out of gas. Can't make a shot. May have to play Grant Williams more in place of Al.
  • Most of the comments are complimentary of the Heat. They are just a better team right now. Their offense and defense has a game plan that has all the details worked out and they execute it. They have more options on offense with a variety of away from the ball movements.
  • Thought Grant Williams did well in game 2 but got smoked by Butler as every player in the league has been smoked even the top defensive player in the league including the Bucks, Holiday.
  • Smart's unforced turnovers were ugly. Celtics win game 2 without those 3 turnovers that were WHY plays, but the Celtics wouldn't even advanced without Smart's game 6 masterpiece. Hoping he can get the Smart of old back out of system and bring back the Smart from game 6 or this will be a 4 game sweep.
  • Tatum has been pretty good in this series. Considering the predictable Celtics offense, he makes something out of nothing.
  • Heat's role players are outplaying the Celtics role players. Martin is just dominating the Celtics.
  • When Timelord plays, he has to get up tighter. If the Heat beat him off the dribble, so be it. The stretch when Martin toasted Timelord was a killer.
  • Biggest reason for the 2-0 situation though is simply, the Miami Heat offensive system is way superior to the Celtics. I went into more detail in the other post, but it is glaring how much better looks the Heat get than the Celtics. The Celtics predictability is just so easy to guard.
  • Brown, Smart, and Horford were all subpar. How much of it that they just had a bad game and how much of it that the Heat's game plan to take away the Celtics simplicity on offense and defense is just too much for the Celtics to overcome.
  • Felt White should have played more in this one since Brown, Smart, and Horford were bad.
Many of the same points repeated over and over.
