Questions and answers

Everyone has questions. So here are some answers:

Should the Celtics get a new head coach?

Will Joe Mazzulla grow into a good head coach? He probably learned quite a bit this season, but learning means not making the same mistakes over again. If you're Brad Stevens, you need to insist that Mazzulla have an experienced co-pilot and that he listens to him. It also means he's better prepared for games. Finally, it means he develops and trust his bench. He might turn into a very good coach, but if he doesn't grow, then you have to get someone better. He is currently the team's biggest liability.

Should the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown?

Only if they can get a player who is better - but then why would any team make that trade? I don't see a realistic trade out there, but crazy things have happened.

Has this team reached its ceiling or does it have room to grow?

The core of this team can still get better. Brown can improve his handle. Tatum can stop whining and take on the responsibility to be a team leader that holds other players accountable. Rob Williams can develop a 15-foot shot. Derrick White can sustain his current level and improve some. Al Horford, Malcom Brogdon and Marcus Smart are past prime. Grant Williams may get a little better.

Speaking of Grant Williams, what should the Celtics do about him?

Let him shop himself around. If he gets a great deal then look to make a sign-and-trade. If his market isn't so strong, bring him back. This is a business decision as much as a basketball decision.

Who should the Celtics add to the roster?

Danillo Gallinari. Hope that he accepts the player option. He's the best that they could get. The Celtics are not in a position where they can buy free agents. They have to hope they can identify and develop "undrafted talent" like the Heat have done. I have no faith that Mazzulla knows how to do this.

Should the Celtics trade Marcus Smart?

Let's give Smart credit - he's the heart of this team. But he's not the best player and he's not the leader. He's a former DPOY but his defense looks like it slipped this year. The team needs to improve defensively so I am inclined to keep him; but he has trade value now and if I could get the right player for him, I'm making the trade. Is there a Mikal Bridges type of player out there under the radar?

Can you point out an area where this team improved over the course of the season?

Other than Derrick White, nope.
