I get that some of the most of the traditional numbers are taken, but some of these numbers are a bit ...out there.

The Celtics are starting to look like a football team with their jersey numbers. Newly signed center Darko Milicic elected for No. 99 (this after veteran center Jason Collins claimed No. 98 earlier this offseason). Training camp invites Micah Downs (55) and Rob Kurz (63) have high numbers as well. Blame all those numbers hanging in the rafters.

Outside of The Big Three, there were a lot of interesting tidbits from Media Day including Avery Bradley's timetable for return to Jason Terry answering questions about Ray Allen.

Random notes from Media Day:

According to Danny Ainge, the Celtics do not have the bi-annual exception this year, eliminates any thought of them bringing in a impact vet mid-year unless it's by trade.

There's a lot of Glen Davis in Jared Sullinger in their game, personality, and sense of humor. Check out his interview with Molly McGrath and Marc D'Amico at celtics.com

Doc Rivers plans to run the offense through Garnett, run pick and pops with Brandon Bass, and get more out of their transition game.

Chris Wilcox put himself at "90%," still getting his wind back.

Avery Bradley doesn't have a timetable for his return and hasn't even touched a basketball. He joked that he would have wanted to shoot it and maybe hurt himself. After tearing his left shoulder completely and a lot of his right, doctors told him he'd be out until January but right now, he weeks ahead of schedule. Even three months from seeing the floor, AB says, "my confidence level is so high right now." Love this kid.

The rookies seem to genuinely have a lot of respect for the veterans. Whether it was the workouts in LA or getting through the stations at media day, the young guys really recognize the opportunity in front of them to work with guys like Pierce and Garnett.

Great quote from Darko Milicic: "For me, I stopped chasing the dream as being the second pick a long time ago." It's a good sign of maturity that Milicic knows what's expected out of him in Boston.

Both Avery Bradley and Dionte Christmas cited Jason Terry as the vet their most excited to play with. Dionte has been mentored by Terry over the summer and Terry once played in a pick up game with AB when he was in the 8th grade.

Great JT quotes: when asked about Ray Allen, Jason Terry replied, "who?" When asked about the Celtics only mustering up 2 points from the bench in Game 7 of the ECF, Terry said, "that won't happen with me here."

Jared Sullinger said that falling to the Celtics felt like being picked in the lottery.

Jeff Green looks to bounce back after missing a season to heart surgery. His versatility to play behind both Garnett and Pierce will be key to the Celtics' success.

Some Jeff Green tidbits from Media Day:

Doc plans to use him as a big 3 and a fast 4.

Green says he's at 100%, but doesn't want to be content and settle. When he first started playing in pick up games, he encouraged people to go at him and not take it easy.

Ubuntu is alive and well. Green credits the team in helping him get through the surgery and recovery process.

When Chris Wilcox and Jeff Green were in Seattle together, Wilcox took Green under his wing, but after both dealt with similar situations this year, Wilcox looks to Green as his mentor.

With Doc and Danny's support, Rajon Rondo embraces his role as the leader of the team.

Some Rajon Rondo notes from Media Day:

Both Doc and Danny reiterated what they've been saying all summer: Rajon Rondo is the leader of the team now. Jason Terry called him, "the best in the business."

Kevin Garnett is his closest friend on the team.

He wasn't prickly, short-answer Rondo today. Between his tour his Nike tour in France, travelling with Red Bull to Southeast Asia, and his internship with GQ during NY Fashion Week, you get a sense that Rondo is really opening up to the spotlight of being a star in the NBA.

Some Kevin Garnett notes from Media Day:

Fab Melo when asked what it's like playing KG: "He's huge and he can shoot. It's hard to block his shot." Welcome to the Thunderdome, Fab.

Expect some rookie hazing in Italy and Turkey. In his interview with Molly McGrath and Marc D'Amico, he hinted to some hijinks involving Glen Davis and some Fear Factor eating dares. That means you, Fab.

Garnett's reasons for coming back: "Doc Rivers # 1, the fans # 2, the chanting from the fans (at the end of Game 6), and friends and family who wanted me to continue."

Regarding Ray Allen: "I don't have Ray's number anymore. I'm not trying to communicate. I'm just being honest."

At Celtics' Media Day, the captain Paul Pierce addressed questions about his knee and when he plans to leave the game.

Some Paul Pierce notes from Media Day:

Pierce plans to retire with Kevin Garnett, but it could have ended much sooner. After losing to Miami in the playoffs, KG considered retiring but Pierce knew that playing in the NBA was something Garnett was "born to do." With KG inking a three year deal this summer, the Celtics would have to pick up the team option for next season and then sign a one-year deal with the 14-year veteran. Had Garnett walked away, Pierce would have seriously considered joining him because he didn't want to be part of a rebuilding process.

By all eyewitness accounts, he looks to be in great shape. The knee that plagued him in May and June is at 100%.

Doc Rivers is considering putting PP on the 5-5-5 minute plan he utilized last year with KG.
